The tragic bond ’brothers-in-arms’ Alen Moradian and Fares Abounader share in Sydney’s gang war

Alen Moradian was gunned down last week in a daylight execution in a Bondi car park. He now shares a bloody bond with longtime friend Fares Abounader that extends further than prison.

Slain bikie boss Alen Moradian linked to four gang murders

A bikie boss killed in the city’s eastern suburbs was a close friend of the first victim of Sydney’s gang war.

Alen Moradian and Fares Abounader have long been brothers in arms, from going through prison together to joining the Comanchero bikie gang.

Now their bond has entered into unwanted territory, as the first and most recent deaths of the gang war.

An incredible photo obtained by The Daily Telegraph shows Moradian and Abounader arm-in-arm in doing jail time together last decade.

But both men are now dead, victims of a gang war that began with Abounader’s killing in September 2020 and most recently spiked with Moradian’s assassination in Bondi Junction last Tuesday.

Moradian’s slaying last week in an underground carpark below his apartment block is arguably the biggest killing of the gang war that has been raging since August 2020 – when Abounader was killed outside his home in Panania.

Moradian’s killers drove from his apartment block on Spring St to nearby James St, where they burnt out their Porsche SUV getaway car just minutes after the shooting.

But the quick response of firefighters saw the blaze extinguished and a gun recovered.

An underworld gun dealer said that gun was a Beretta pistol that may be more than 30 years told and cost about $1500 on the black market.

“It was a very old Beretta, a single stack gun that normally holds about seven or eight bullets,” the source said.

“They go on the black market for about $1500. It’s not the type of gun you would expect in an underworld hit.”

A burnt out car was also found after being used in the murder of Abounader, who was shot dead in the driveway of his home in Panania from close range as he sat in his SUV.

Abounader’s wife pulled him from the driver’s seat and tried desperately to help, but he could not be saved.

The 39-year-old’s death came amid rumours he was planning to leave the Comanchero and patch over to the Bandidos.

But a source who knew Abounader said he had long been a “well respected and popular” figure in the bikie gang.

Abounader was doing jail time for his role in the Sydney Airport brawl between the Comanchero and Hells Angels in 2009, which saw Hells Angels associate Anthony Zervas beaten to death with a metal bollard.

Moradian was already behind bars at the time of that brawl after being convicted of importing cocaine.

He was jailed for a decade and released in 2017, from which point he kept a low profile despite continuing to pull strings on the streets.

But last August he was warned by NSW Police of a bounty on his head, resulting in him moving between a number of CBD high-rise apartments and regularly switching cars.

Still Moradian could not escape, with police believing two gunmen managed to make their way into the basement carpark below his high-rise unit block and lie in wait until he got into his car to go to the gym about 8.15am last Tuesday.

The powerful bikie boss and drug importer was shot at seven times, with at least one of the bullets striking him in the head.

Police sources with experience of assessing underworld hits said it was clear the shooter was “experienced” and had shot Moradian from close range.

“Close range, experienced shooter with good stable muzzle control, there’s no doubt about that,” the source said.
