The Snitch: Fat Pizza’s Bobo in court over alleged drug possession

Australian actor John Bokser, best known for his role in Fat Pizza, landed himself in court this week after being pulled over by police in Sydney’s inner west while riding his bicycle.

It was a comical scene that wouldn’t have been out of place in the TV series Fat Pizza.

Unfortunately for Aussie actor John Herman Bokser, his run-in with police in April last year wasn’t scripted for the screen.

Bokser — aka Johnny Boxer — landed himself in Newtown Local Court this week charged with drug possession and riding a bike without a helmet.

The 60-year-old Campsie man, who was discovered by casting agents at Bondi decades ago, is best known for his role as Bobo, the gruff but hilarious chef in Fat Pizza.

Fortunately his latest conviction won’t keep him from joining the show’s original cast for the upcoming season.

On April 28 last year he was riding on the footpath through Erskineville when police pulled a nervous and sweating Bokser over.

According to police allegations tendered in court, Bokser became argumentative and non-compliant when officers tried to search the front pocket of his jeans.

He then threw himself on the ground and declared “my legs are f … ed”.

Right on cue, a small clear bottle with the liquid drug GBL then rolled onto the footpath at the feet of the bemused officers.

Court documents state Bokser then suggested police were attempting to frame him.

“You guys found that on the footpath and put it in my pocket,” he said.

After stubbornly responding “no comment” when asked what was inside the bottle, Bokser later said the drug was to help alleviate pain caused by a motorbike accident.

But when it came to his day in court last week, the magistrate revealed Bokser had an extensive history of drug offences.

His lawyer pointed out while Bokser was currently unemployed, he was looking forward to returning to the set of Fat Pizza.

He got credit for pleading guilty to the offences and was fined $600 in total for both offences.

Salim Mehajer’s now infamous wedding revealed that the jailed property developer is fond of the limelight. But it has now become apparent Mehajer doesn’t care if he’s getting attention for his lavish nuptials or having his face splashed across the TV news.

The Mehajer company, Zenah Project Developments, put out a job advertisement this week for a personal assistant to work alongside the 33-year-old.

According to business records, Zenah is the holding company for Sydney Building and Construction Pty Ltd with its headquarters based on Carlingford Rd in Sefton.

A large sign on the front of the building features a link to its website, www.sydneygroup.com.au, however when you click on that link you are taken to an A Current Affair story titled “Mehajer the Maniac”.

The TV report detailed the violent video calls, which open with Mehajer screaming that his now ex-wife Aysha Learmonth has “five minutes to call” before he threatens to “rape your mum”.

Police took an AVO out against Mehajer following the video to protect Learmonth.

It begs the question of why such a shameful episode would be linked to the website of the business of which Mehajer is a former director.

Not to mention, who thought it was a good idea?

Calls to the company were not answered.

NEW APPOINTMENT

The Homicide Squad’s newest recruit has kept a low profile compared to her predecessor.

And after the drama surrounding former detective Gary Jubelin’s departure this year, you can’t blame the police hierarchy for trying something different.

Detective Inspector Virginia Gorman quietly moved into the senior vacancy at the elite squad this month.

Overseeing one of six investigation teams, the detective — who is the only female inspector at the squad — inherits a suite of high-profile jobs.

She was recently posted at the Professional Standards Command — where police investigate misbehaving police — and before that, the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.

It was there she helped claim the sought after scalps of father and son fugitives Gino and Mark Stocco in country NSW.

But while her investigations have attracted plenty of fanfare, it appears Det Insp Gorman prefers an existence outside the limelight.

Snitch struggled to find a photo of senior officer let alone convince her to supply one.
