JUST three years after police dramatically shut down a Rebels clubhouse in the south-west Sydney suburb of Bringelly, a man with alleged links to the bikie gang would be at the centre of a bloody double stabbing showdown in the same area.
Strike Force Raptor has closed about 40 of these gang clubhouses in NSW since 2012, and have even established mini-Raptor teams in Newcastle and Wollongong because outlaw motorcycle club gang chapters haven’t been effectively deterred by sporadic raids out of Sydney.
In April 2014, the Bringelly Rebels clubhouse was forced to close by police — just a few kilometres away from Monday’s alleged brutal home invasion.
A man and woman have since been charged with attempted murder.
28-year-old Kristen Moriarty, who used to live at the home, is accused of forcing her way inside with the help of a 32-year-old Rebels associate and stabbing a man and a woman.
As they fled, the man who was stabbed, Vince Datillo, 44, allegedly staggered outside with a .308 Winchester rifle and fired two shots as the couple fled in a car.
The driver was hit and lost control, crashing into a telegraph pole down the road. His accomplice was unharmed.
The other stabbing victim, a 38-year-old woman, is in a serious but stable condition. Mr Datillo also remains in hospital under police guard. Police say the rifle was unlicensed and unregistered.
The horrific details are what some Bringelly locals thought was a thing of the past since the closing of the clubhouse.
Neighbour Jo Vella described Monday’s incident as “scary.”
“It’s pretty scary, you’re in bed and you don’t know whether you’re going to be the one shot or stabbed,” he told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.
“I was going to get up but the wife said ‘it’s got nothing to do with you, stay there’.”
