FORGET the fascinator, the urban turban is set to be the hot accessory at the races this spring carnival.
Punters will ditch traditional headwear for head wraps, with the turban given a modern feminine twist for fashionable racegoers at events like The Everest.
Celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Hawkins and Nikki Phillips have all been spotted donning a fashion turban, setting the trend in motion.
Professional high jumper, model and racegoer Amy Pejkovic said she’d been excited to try the trend.
“I’ve never worn a turban before,” she told The Daily Telegraph before modelling one at Randwick Racecourse yesterday, “but it was quite nice to step outside my comfort zone and wear a statement piece.”
Hair salons booked out ahead of The Everest race day
The turbans are selling at all price points, available from boutique milliners like Nerida Winter and fast fashion giants like Asos and Sportsgirl. Ms Winter said she has seen huge interest from women in the trend, which she sells in a range of colours for $335 a piece.
“It’s a half bow, half turban,” she said.
