16-year-old’s body found after Hawkesbury River search

Police divers have found the body of a teenage boy who went missing while swimming in the Hawkesbury River this afternoon.

A 16-year-old boy has been found dead after he disappeared while swimming in the Hawkesbury river on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the river in Windsor at midday after the teenager disappeared from view.

Onlookers gathered near the river in hopes of seeing the missing boy resurface.

After four hours of searching, his body was discovered at 4:20pm.

While the body is yet to be formally identified police believe it belongs to the missing swimmer.

A NSW police spokesperson said helicopters and police divers had been called to the scene to discover the boy.

“A search of the river commenced with assistance from specialist police,” she said.

“The SES and Toll NSW Ambulance Aeromedical service are out there as well.”

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
