Sydney to hold Australia v Argentina World Cup match live stream

Sydneysiders will be able to watch the Socceroos’ knockout match against Argentina at a live site in the CBD, Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced.

The Socceroos’ do-or-die clash against Argentina will be streamed at an “awesome” live site at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, with Premier Dominic Perrottet vowing to one-up Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Early Thursday Mr Perrottet said the government was urgently working to set up a live site for fans to watch the game on Sunday morning.

“We’re going to have a great live site, it’s going to be the best in the country,” he said.

“We’re going to have a great announcement very shortly and it’s going to be awesome.”

Mr Perrottet said the obvious location for the live site would be outside the Opera House, but details by the afternoon the destination had been locked in a Tumbalong Park.

“It’s on!” Mr Perrottet tweeted.

While football fans erupted at a packed Federation Square in Melbourne on Thursday morning when the Socceroos won against Denmark, there was no central live site for Sydneysiders to cheer on our team after they advanced to the knockout round of the World Cup in Qatar.

Ahead of the NSW government confirming a CBD live site, Inner West Council announced that fans will be able to watch Sunday’s clash with Argentina live in Enmore Park.

The City of Sydney Council is also under pressure to announce its own live sites.

Labor Councillor Linda Scott called on Lord Mayor Clover Moore to get behind the Socceroos.

“The City of Sydney – from Rosebery to Redfern – should be covered in green and gold to celebrate our magnificent Socceroos,” she said.

“Inner city communities have called on our City to open up Erskineville Oval, Prince Alfred Park, Customs House so we can gather to watch Sunday’s historic game – and I’m backing them!”
