A man accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint in a brazen daylight robbery was crash-tackled by police investigating the incident.
Two men, aged 21 and 19, were charged with multiple offences relating to the alleged armed robbery of a young woman in Canterbury earlier this month after extensive investigations that culminated in raids by the riot squad.
Police will allege the woman, 24, was threatened with a handgun while she crossed a bridge over the Cooks River, in Canterbury, on July 7.
The men allegedly took her mobile phone, cash and credit card.
The 10-day investigation ended when Burwood detectives were forced to chase after the 21-year-old accused before tackling him to the ground in Leichhardt.
After being handcuffed and led to the police truck, the man complained about not being able to pick up his cigarettes.
Shortly after the arrest, police searched two homes in Canterbury and Marrickville.
Officers allegedly found two replica handguns, a samurai sword, a stolen credit card and various items of clothing.
The 19-year-old man was arrested at the Canterbury home and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon in company and three counts of fraud.
The 21-year-old was charged with the same offences.
Both men had their bail refused to appear in court on Wednesday.
