Sydney beauty therapist convinced her stalker will hunt her down pleads for AVO

She’s a sitting duck. The barrage of abuse and threats arrives daily. Julia fears for her life, but a magistrate has refused to grant an apprehended violence order against her stalker.

‘I fear for my life’: Julia's cyber stalking nightmare

A Sydney beautician wakes up every single morning to a barrage of abusive and threatening emails from her stalker, and despite a six-month trail of evidence and the best efforts of NSW Police, it seems nothing can be done. She’s a sitting duck.

A magistrate has refused to grant an apprehended violence order against the relentless stalker who has been ignoring warnings from police because there is no proof he will enter the country – even though he has the way, the means, and apparently the desire to make good on his threats.

The man bombards Julia, who doesn’t want her surname revealed, with emails and messages from varying numbers and accounts, telling her “we will meet one day, remember that” and threats like “I promise you I will f**k you forever” and “soon the darkness will around (sic) your life and you will be lost”.

Three months ago Julia told the Saturday Telegraph she feared she would be the next woman “stabbed or doused in acid”.

She has no doubt the man she met briefly during an overseas holiday, and believes is now in Indonesia, will make good on his threats to “make her pay”.

“Of course I think he will come at some stage. How long can he just keep doing what he is doing? I am his life project.”

Julia said the man, from a very strict Muslim family, broke into her email account, hacked her phone and commenced his crusade to bring her “misery”.

He posts and deletes reviews on Julia’s business page, makes fake Facebook and Instagram accounts and engages with her friends and family. He even contacts her customers and warns she is a prostitute.

He sends her SMS messages daily and through the night from online portals.

After her plea for help was published, a NSW Police officer presented the evidence to Waverly Court but the application for an AVO was dismissed because the man in question hadn’t purchased a plane ticket.

“I know he has the ways and means to get there. It’s a few hours away, he has told me he will but right now I am stuck being bombarded with his threats and it’s causing me and my family and friends so much stress,” a distressed Julia said this week.

NSW Police have written to the man and told him what he is doing is an offence under NSW legislation that carries a maximum of five years jail time “and you have to understand when someone asks you to stop, you must stop”.

“I cannot stress enough that you must stop contact with her,” a constable wrote to him in May.

Despite the police notifications the abuse continues every day, with one message saying “I’m not worried about your courts”.

“I have tried everything. They tell you to report these kinds of things, reach out for help so you don’t become the next victim, but I am helpless, this is affecting my business, my relationships, my life. This week he has even started up new social media accounts using my details. It’s distressing and embarrassing and very, very scary.”

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command received a report on April 20 from a 31-year-old woman in relation to online harassment.

“Inquiries revealed the person reportedly involved resides overseas,” a spokeswoman said.

“Police will continue to liaise with the woman and provide advice on measures to accurately record the harassment and steps to take to ensure her safety online.”

Julia says she has repeatedly contacted Facebook and Instagram about the fake accounts to no avail.

The E-safety commissioner has been contacted for comment.
