Three people are lucky to be alive after a good Samaritan pulled them from a burning wreck in western Sydney on Sunday morning.
Chris McDiarmid has told of how he was woken by a “massive massive bang which went for a bang five seconds” outside his St Johns Park home.
The bang was caused by a Jeep Cherokee crashing into a parked car, destroying a light pole, then landing on its side against a tree and fence.
“I have looked out the window and seen what has happened,” Mr McDiarmid said.
“My missus has looked outside while I was getting dressed and she said ‘Oh my God I think there is someone dead in there for sure’”.
“I have gone out and noticed there was fire coming from inside the car.
“I ran around and saw three guys in the car.
“I was saying ‘guys get the f*ck out of the car it is on fire’.
“The sunroof the glass was broken but there was fabric there and I have ripped it.
“I helped one guy out, then the other two.
“We then moved away from the car and next minute the car was engulfed in 3m flames.”
Mr McDiarmid said three men were lucky to be alive.
“There was nothing wrong with them,” he said.
“The two passengers were asleep when the crashed happened, the driver I think has fallen asleep, his foot has gone down and they crashed into the car.”
The 21-year-old driver was taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the two passengers were treated at the scene.
NSW Police said an investigation into the crash has been launched.
