Sydney’s Nepalese cricket community is in mourning after one of their star players was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife in Granville.

Numa Gautam, 34, did not appear or apply for bail during a brief mention at Parramatta Bail Court after she was charged with murder on Sunday morning.

Police accuse Ms Gautam of murdering her husband Santosh Gautam, 34, who was found with stab wounds by emergency services who arrived at the couple’s Blaxcell St home about 7.30pm on Saturday.

Ms Gautam was also found injured at the home and was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment under police guard.

She was then taken to Granville police station where the murder charge was laid.

She will remain behind bars until her next court appearance on Thursday.

Mr Gautam was a keen cricket player and member of the Nepalese Cricket Association which postponed A-grade games on Sunday in remembrance of him.

Bijay Sharma received a phone call telling him about his friend’s death early on Sunday morning and was left shaking.

“I was doing some work from home when the phone rang after midnight. I was in shock I was shaking, I couldn’t believe it,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“He was a good friend and a brother it is devastating. We all feel so bad.”

Another friend Ajay Kshatry said they would never expected this to happen.

“He was a genuine man and friend. He is one of the best, he always looks after everyone. We are so shocked we had never heard about anything like this before,” he said.

Mr Gautam leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter.
