Plans to redevelop St Agnes Catholic High School at Rooty Hill with a $13m expansion are gathering pace, with details before the state government, following several setbacks.

The school has submitted fresh plans to address the soaring number of students from 720 to 1360 with the expansion to include a double-storey administration building, basement carpark with 129 spaces, and a sheltered outdoor learning and play area.

Along with the student numbers soaring, staff numbers are expected to increase from 44 to 75 at the St Agnes Ave site.

Principal Jeanette Holland has welcomed the final upgrades to the school, which only catered for students from years 7 to 10 until 2019.

“Since St Agnes welcomed its first Year 11 students in 2019, it’s been great to see our school thrive,’’ she said.

“These wonderful new learning and teaching spaces will help us keep serving our growing community.”

Subject to approval, Block B will be demolished and a double-storey administration centre with a reception space, sick bay, four meeting rooms, principal’s office, wellbeing offices and meeting rooms will be constructed.

Block G will be demolished to make way for a basketball court while the western carpark will also be bulldozed.

An outdoor place space will feature above the new carpark.

The project will be assessed by the state government’s Sydney Central City Planning Panel before the Planning Department has the final say.

The proposals follow a series of upgrades already completed at St Agnes including 20 learning spaces at the seniors hub and a performance hub.

A creative hub with 24 learning areas and three specialty spaces for students studying technology and applied sciences, and visual arts, is under construction.

The project has faced several hurdles since 2018 when council officers rejected a development application while in March 2021, plans for a basketball court and 79 car spaces were also dismissed.

DTA Architects recently released new images showing how the school could look.
