Police have confirmed a 42-year-old woman reported missing in the Northern Rivers has been found safe and well.
Sonthia Mikkelson was reported missing on Friday and Richmond Police District appealed for public assistance on Monday.
Later in the day, police celebrated the “good news!”
“The 42-year-old woman missing from Lismore has been found safe,” a statement reads.
Police thanked the public and the media for their assistance.
Woman reported missing almost seven months after last sighting
Monday, November 4: Police are appealing for information to find an itinerant 42-year-old woman after she was last seen in the Northern Rivers in early April and only reported missing on Friday.
Sonthia Mikkelson’s last known sighting was in regional hub Lismore about midday on Friday, April 5 – close to seven months ago.
“When she could not be located or contacted, officers attached to Richmond Police District were notified on Friday, November 1 and commenced inquiries into her whereabouts, NSW Police said in a statement.
Ms Mikkelson is known to frequent the Lismore, Ballina, Byron Bay and Nimbin areas.
Police believe the gap between the last sighting of Ms Mikkelson and the missing persons report being lodged may be because that she has no family ties locally, as well as no fixed address.
Family and police “hold concerns for her welfare as she lives with several medical conditions”.
Ms Mikkelson is described as caucasian in appearance, about 165cm tall, with a thin build, long black hair, blue/grey eyes and a crucifix tattoo on her right hand.
Police urged anyone with more information to contact Lismore Police Station, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
