A GRADUATE nurse was captured on CCTV footage administering anaesthetic to a patient during a botched breast procedure that ultimately led to the woman’s death, a court has heard.

Yueqiong Fu, 29, was refused bail in Burwood Local Court today after becoming the second person charged over a fatal breast enlargement procedure on beauty business owner Jean Huang, 35, at The Medi Beauty Clinic Chippendale last Thursday.

In refusing Fu bail, Magistrate Susan Foran said police had CCTV footage which showed the 29-year-old, dressed in a surgical mask and gloves, insert a cannula into Ms Huang and administer anaesthetic.

Ms Huang suffered a heart attack during the procedure and was rushed to hospital where she died several days later.

Another woman, Chinese tourist, Jie Shao, 33, who police allege was unqualified, has also been charged over her death.

Fu pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, use poison so as to endanger life and hinder an investigation into an indictable offence.

Her lawyer Neville Parsons made an unsuccessful application for bail saying Ms Huang had told Fu that Shao was a qualified doctor and had asked her to assist in the procedure.

“She believed she was dealing with a qualified doctor from China … she was simply following directions from the doctor,” he said.

He said that as a graduate nurse, Fu was trained to obey doctors.

“She was trained to obey what doctors say,” Mr Parsons said.

“Was she supposed to say to the doctor show me all your certificates?”

He told the court the nursing graduate from UTS would agree to be under virtual “home detention,” if granted bail and her father-in-law would put up $60,000 in surety.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Liam McKibbin opposed the bail application telling the court that Fu lied when first questioned by the police and only admitted to being involved in the medical procedure after she was shown the CCTV footage.

Ms Horan ultimately refused the application noting the prosecution’s case that the procedure was an, “unlicensed, highly dangerous medical procedure conducted by unqualified people.”

She also said Fu was living in Australia on a student visa and would have a, “real incentive to flee the jurisdiction”.

Fu was supported in court by her husband, a piano teacher, and her father-in-law.

Her co-accused Shao was arrested last week and faces a charge of manslaughter and administer poison. She has not entered a plea and has also been refused bail.

It is alleged Shao and Ms Huang met through a mutual friend and the pair had reached an agreement that Shao would carry out the procedure at Ms Huang’s clinic.

She arrived in the country a few days before the procedure and had planned to travel back to China after it was conducted.

It is alleged Shao injected Ms Huang with tramadol and lidocaine before injecting breast fillers.

Both women will return to court next month.
