A PRESTIGIOUS private boys school was forced into lockdown as 150 Year 12 students ran amok through the grounds during muck-up day.

According to pupils, parents and neighbours of The Scots College, which prides itself on “raising fine young men”, the Year 12 students went on a day-long rampage that sent other pupils and neighbours scurrying for safety.

Police were called after glass bottles were thrown at younger students, a grandstand on the main oval was overturned and a golf cart was hijacked. They seized bottles of alcohol before dispersing the troublemakers.

Several buildings at the $34,900-per-year school in Bellevue Hill, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, were pelted with eggs and watermelons, and one witness said some students were forced to lock themselves in classrooms where they were “cowering in fear”.

It was horrible. The teachers were scared and some of the students were knocking on doors of the staff-room to get away from it all.

Neighbours described the scenes as “anarchy” before police were called.

“We were told the school went into lockdown. Children who weren’t involved were scared,” said a nearby resident who asked not to be named.

A Scots mum who lives in the area was confronted by a group of boys dressed in drag urinating on a neighbour’s garage.

She said: “I came outside and saw them throwing beer bottles in the street. When one started pissing on the garage I told them to leave and they said ‘f... off’, then ran away.”

They left smashed beer bottles and watermelons as they fled along Carrington St.

Another neighbour saw cars being trampled and tyres removed as students sat on the vehicles’ roofs. He said: “There was spray-painting everywhere and kids were running down the road screaming and swearing. It was disgusting. Teachers were powerless.”

It is understood police were called after the students began loitering outside the school gates on Victoria Rd.

Police confirmed they attended the school, where “about 150 male students were exhibiting anti-social behaviour”.

However they said the students were “moved on without incident”.

“There were no arrests but about 150 youths were given a move-on direction and they complied,” a spokesman said.
