An Australian flight attendant has revealed the horrors cabin crew face on planes during school holiday periods.
Virgin Australia cabin crew member Ashlee Rogers took to social media to share video footage of the dire state of aircrafts post-flight, during school holidays.
The Gold Coast-bound airbus appeared trashed, with food crumbs, crushed up biscuits, chips and snacks scattered under the seats on the floor and down the carpeted aisle walkway.
Alongside the disgusting food scraps appeared stickers, paper, plastic water bottles and other miscellaneous rubbish as well as a red power spread out on the seats and floor.
In the video captioned “school holidays + gold coast flights,” Ms Rogers also showed an empty book of children’s stickers left behind on the floor and revealed the stickers had been placed in the bathroom and “stuck to the toilet floor”.
Virgin Australia cabin crew are responsible for cleaning the aircraft in between flights throughout the day, with plane cleaners tending to the aircraft each night, according to the flight attendant, who said a high powered vacuum cleaner was not enough to clean up the mess left behind by passengers on the flight that day.
In a separate video, Ms Rogers showed what appeared to be a full bag of crushed up chips thrown on the floor and under the seat on a similar flight.
“Could of just said they didn’t want the chips,” Ms Rogers said.
Social media users were quick to claim that this mess had been created by schoolies students, travelling to Queensland for their post-HSC celebrations.
“This year’s schoolies is feral,” one user said.
“They should be made to repeat Year 12,” and “gotta love schoolies,” agreed others.
This comes as aviation experts warn high flight prices are here to stay and are expected to continue into the New Year, with most airlines offering no discount fares throughout the holiday period due to high demand and full flights.
Capacity constraints are putting upward pressure on fares, with Qantas and Virgin Australia reluctant to increase flights due to high fuel prices and uncertainty around staffing.
Domestic airfares now resemble international fares with travellers regularly paying in excess of $1000 for one way tickets within Australia as demand outstrips supply.
Other videos shared on social media this week also illustrate the post-school celebration mess created by this year’s graduating class in other parts of the country.
A shocking TikTok video posted on Saturday night shows Cavill Ave in Queensland, the main strip where Gold Coast schoolies students congregate during their week away, covered in litter, fast food, plastic bottles, sand and mud.
“Schoolies, this is f*****,” the school leaver says with a look of disappointment on his face.
“Do better schoolies day one,” video owner Oliver Holmes posted alongside the clip.
