Roman Quaedvlieg told his partner he was giving her advice in her bid to work for the Australian Border Force because she had “great talents” and “equally bc I love you”, court documents state.

Details of their conversations can be revealed after the ex-ABF boss’s girlfriend Sarah Jane Chisholm Rogers, 24, sensationally entered guilty pleas the day she was due to face a hearing over allegations she misled corruption investigators over help she received to gain employment in the organisation.

The Turramurra woman entered court holding hands with her 54-year-old partner and the pair sat next to each other as lawyer Bryan Wrench entered a plea of guilty to one count of giving false or misleading information and one count of disclosing information about a summons. A third charge of giving false or misleading information was withdrawn.

Police facts state that Whatsapp conversations between Quaedvlieg and Rogers over five months establish he provided “extensive advice” throughout the course of her applications for ABF employment.

That included communicating potential questions and answers and having people “keep an eye” on her application.

“You did very well at the video interview. The ppl who were keeping an eye on your app for me were getting a little excited and were devising a safety net for you IN CASE you got triaged out. But it was unnecessary bc you did well and ‘showed mature insight’ into the ABF and it’s operations,” he wrote in August 2016.

When she was told she failed in her bid to secure that Border Force Officer Recruit Traineeship (BFORT) Quaedvlieg messaged her in October 2016 about applying to work in a casual employee role, called an Irregular and International Employee (IIE).

“Yeah, I wanna get u in working first up as an IIE (purpose and $$) and then in as an ABF recruit so you got more work diversity,” he wrote in one message that month.

“Plz know I’m doing this firstly bc I think you have great talents and will be an asset to enforcement wherever you work and equally bc I love you. X,” he also wrote.

Rogers began the casual IIE position in December 2016.

In June 2017 Rogers was summoned by the powerful Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity to give evidence on her partner and accusations he had been involved on “corrupt conduct”.

She told investigators that while she had spoken her Quaedvlieg about her applications he had told her it was “inappropriate” to give her advice and put her in contact with the Assistant Commissioner.

“Roman had nothing to do with like giving me advice on how to do things or where to look for, you know...” she said.

Police facts say this was false and misleading citing the messages between the pair between August 2016 and February 2017.

Court documents also state that Rogers told Quaedvlieg she had been summoned to give evidence at the hearing in breach of confidentiality requirements.

“It’ll all be over in 12hrs. I feel sick for you; it’s a crap situation for you to be in. Don’t forget you’re a witness, not the subject. There’s nothing to hide or lie about. Just tell it as it is,” Quaedvlieg wrote to her.

The day before Rogers had messaged him saying: “I really hate this. I really just can’t deal w stress or anxiety that well and I always end up in tears”.

Police facts state the Quaedvlieg and Rogers first spoke on the internet in March 2016, and first met in person in April 2016. They began an intimate relationship in August 2016.

Mr Quaedvlieg was sacked in March 2018 after a nine-month investigation into the allegations he helped his girlfriend get a job. The ACLEI is yet to deliver its findings.

Magistrate Karen Robinson has ordered a sentence assessment report with Rogers scheduled to face a sentence hearing on May 23.

Rogers will return to court for a sentence hearing on May 23.
