Sam Ibrahim released from detention, vows to ‘terrorise’ brother John over TV series

Ex-bikie Sam Ibrahim has been released from immigration detention following the ruling by the High Court of Australia … and he’s got brother John in his sights.

EXCLUSIVE: Last King of The Cross

Sam Ibrahim has been released from immigration detention, and has joked that he will return to Sydney to “terrorise” younger brother and Kings Cross boss John over his “bullshit” TV show.

The 58-year-old former senior bikie took the dig at his well-known sibling in an interview after his release on Friday from a Western Australian immigration detention centre.

Ibrahim spent the past three years in immigration limbo thanks to a federal government attempt to deport the former Kings Cross enforcer to his birth country of Lebanon after authorities claimed he had never been made an Australian citizen, despite having lived here since the 1970s.

But the government was thrown into chaos after it was forced to release Ibrahim and a large number of others – including convicted murderers – after the High Court ruled on November 8 that indefinite detention is illegal.

The one-time senior Nomad told The Sunday Telegraph he plans to return to Sydney on Monday to live and work with family while vowing to “go on the straight and narrow”.

“I’m too old for that shit,” Ibrahim said about his former connections to organised crime, which saw him jailed for nine years over a gun and drug supply ring with former Rose Tattoo drummer Paul De Marco.

“There are no officers around me. I’m finally free. Thank god it’s over — this nightmare is finished,” he said from a Western Australian hotel he compared to a budget Kings Cross bolthole.

He had steak ragu and calamari delivered as his first meal.

“The last five years have been a massive burden,” he said.

“Last night I was standing in my room doing laps.”

But he also said he plans to sue the Government “for holding me in detention for three years”.

Ibrahim, who was once one of the most influential organised crime figures in NSW, said he was released from the centre at 3pm after a last-ditch attempt to banish him from Australia failed.

“It was the biggest shock for me,” Ibrahim said. “There was about 20 cops in my room. I thought they were going to remove me by force.

“But then they said: ‘We’ve got good news for you’,” he said. “I said: ‘It can’t be good news if I’ve got 20 cops in my room.

“But then they told me: ‘We can’t deport you, you haven’t had a case (in court) for three years’,” Ibrahim said.

“They were joking around and said: ‘Stay out of trouble’.

“Of course I will,” he said. “I’m too old for this shit.”

Ibrahim has previously said he is furious at his portrayal in brother John’s fictionalised TV series, the Last King Of The Cross, and plans to take this up with his younger sibling when he returns to Sydney.

“I’m going to terrorise John. He’s probably going to leave the country,” Ibrahim said through laughter. “Over the bullshit in that TV series.”

The series charts John’s rise to power in the Kings Cross nightclub game, but Sam says his depiction as a killer and drug-addicted bikie is well off the mark.

Sam’s release comes after his lawyer William Levingston wrote to Immigration Minister Andrew Giles demanding his client be released following the High Court’s decision.

Like many of the other detainees, Ibrahim will be subject to some conditions.

“They’ve got an ankle bracelet on me that might come off,” he said. “I don’t care. I’ll do whatever they want.”

He said there will likely be no party on his return to Sydney, “just family and friends”.

“A couple of mates want me to speak to youth about crime and staying away from gangs and shit,” he said.

John Ibrahim declined to comment.
