DISGRACED investment banker Oliver Curtis was locked down in his jail cell for 24 hours after an altercation with another inmate.
The jailbird partner of PR queen Roxy Jacenko was involved in an incident with a small-time crook in the common area of the minimum security Cooma Correctional Centre.
Buff Curtis, who appears to have honed his physique in the prison gym plus six hours of gardening on day release, squared up to the prisoner, who was ranting at him.
ROXY SAYS SHE’S STILL ANGRY WITH OLIVER
“Another inmate stepped in to calm things down before all three of them were locked down in their cells for 24 hours as a warning,” a prison source told The Daily Telegraph.
“That is not the sort of behaviour that will be tolerated,” the source said.
A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman confirmed: “Staff separated three inmates after a verbal argument between the inmates at Cooma Correctional Centre last month. There were no injuries.”
It was an uncharacteristic breach of prison rules for Curtis, 31, who has quietly toed the line for his one year incarceration over a $1.4 million insider trading scam.
“He is pretty popular and the inmates have even given him a nickname, Adonis, because of his ripped muscles,” the source said.
Curtis is regularly seen with his shirt off on his daily work release trips to the prison garden and is happy to joke around with his fellow crooks.
Today’s photograph of him in the prison grounds will be a surprise for his wife, who has not been a regular among the many visitors who have seen the disgraced banker in jail — despite once chartering a private jet to visit him.
Last week, she stepped down from Curtis’s investment company, Encounter Investments, further fuelling speculation that their marriage is on the rocks.
Curtis’s mining magnate father Nick has stepped in as the sole signatory for the company.
Jacenko, 36, has been seen out and about in Double Bay without her wedding ring and has spent time with her former flame, millionaire property developer Nabil Gazal. She has stressed that Curtis is a great dad and that she had not told their two children that their father was serving time in the big house.
Last month she appeared on morning television to argue that her marriage was far from over despite some obvious difficulties.
“Look, no marriage is ever perfect,” she said.
“Obviously mine is challenged because of the situation we’re in, but Ollie is a wonderful father and I’ve got my rings on (today), but I don’t wear them to the gym ... all is fine.”
However, the real test will be on June 23. That is the earliest date Curtis could be released — providing he behaves himself and does not get into any more stoushes behind bars.
Will she be there at the prison gate to pick him up?
