Milestone in new Western Sydney airport's construction

THE route of the billion-dollar motorway connecting the M7 with the Western Sydney Airport has been finalised, with the 16km road winding through Kemps Creek, Cecil Hills, Badgerys Creek and Luddenham.

Cities Minister Paul Fletcher is set to unveil the new route after major changes from early proposals which shifted the road north to save parts of Western Sydney Parklands.

The M12, which extends from Cecil Hills to the Northern Rd in Luddenham, will initially have four lanes, with plans to widen it to six.

And the Infrastructure Department is planning for a future interchange linking several other local roads to the motorway as the massive $6 billion airport grows.

Mr Fletcher, who will announce the route with Roads Minister Melinda Pavey today, said an extra one million people were expected to live in the area by 2031, with the airport forecast to support 28,000 jobs by then.

Ms Pavey said the route had been changed “to maintain the integrity of the Western Sydney Parklands and maintain the integrity and development potential of the area for future generations”.

The construction is part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Project, $2.9 billion of which is funded by the federal government.
