Revealed: The other suburb where John Sidoti owned property

Documents the government tried to keep secret have revealed more multimillion-dollar property interests in sidelined MP John Sidoti’s portfolio including a Sydney property redeveloped and sold for almost $7 million.

More multimillion-dollar property interests have surfaced in sidelined MP John Sidoti’s portfolio, including another investment with the same Chinese property developer he’s in business with on a $70 million residential tower development, new documents reveal.

Documents the government tried to keep secret also reveal the stood-aside sports and veterans minister Mr Sidoti held an interest in a West Ryde property which his parents redeveloped into townhouses and sold for $6.86 million in December 2015.

Adding to Mr Sidoti’s long-declared 10 per cent holding with Chinese developer Southern Han’s Rouse Hill residential precinct development next to Tallawong Station is another investment with the same developer, this time in Wolli Creek.

In 2014 Mr Sidoti held, via a superannuation fund, an interest in Southern Han’s 60-unit development known as The Spark near Ikea at Wolli Creek, according to a discretionary return signed by Mr Sidoti in November 2014.

Mr Sidoti’s ordinary pecuniary return in that and subsequent years did not list either the West Ryde or Wolli Creek properties.

The documents were tabled in parliament on Tuesday night after the Opposition successfully appealed the government’s claim they were privilege and should remain confidential.

Labor’s spokesman on local government Greg Warren yesterday in parliament asked whether, in light of the new revelations, Mr Sidoti had mislead the house when he told parliament on Tuesday he was “not a developer in any shape or form”.

“This has been one big smear campaign,” Mr Sidoti said.

“Let the ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) do the job that they were asked to do.”

A spokesman for the Premier yesterday revealed Gladys Berejiklian had not made a final ruling conflict of interest in relation to Mr Sidoti because ICAC was investigating.

“When DPC (Department of Premier and Cabinet) provided its advice to the Premier in September, the ICAC had already launched its investigation into Mr Sidoti,” the spokesman said.

“For that reason, and based on DPC advice, the Premier in September made rulings for all other Ministers and made an interim ruling for Mr Sidoti, pending the conclusion of ICAC’s investigation.”
