A man has had his leg crushed stopping his car rolling off a south coast ferry wharf.
Police who showed up to help the man then allegedly found a replica handgun under the seat.
The van rolled onto Huskisson wharf about 10.15pm on Saturday and went close to tipping into the water.
“A white Holden Combo mini-van rolled onto the wharf and had its front wheels hanging off the edge,” police said in a statement.
Police said the 45-year-old male driver had parked the vehicle about 10m from the wharf’s edge and briefly got out when it began rolling forward.
“As the man tried to get back into the driver’s seat his lower right leg was crushed when the van became wedged between posts at the end of the wharf,” the statement said.
A 42-year-old woman in the front passenger seat was not injured.
When South Coast District officers searched the mini-van alleged they found and seized a replica handgun hidden under the drivers’ seat, a number of knives and cannabis.
The Bomaderry man remains in hospital and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
