Police are hoping three distinctive tattoos may help them identify a man found in a critical condition, slumped unconscious against a fence in western Sydney this morning.

Police are hoping three distinctive tattoos may help them identify a man found in a critical condition, slumped unconscious against a fence in western Sydney this morning.

The mystery man was found near the intersection of Miller Road and Fuller Street, Chester Hill about 2am.

He has a tattoo of a helicopter on the left upper chest, a Sydney Opera House on his upper middle chest and tattoos of three men wearing balaclavas on his stomach.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command have been unable to identify the man and are appealing for public so they can alert his family

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern in appearance, aged in his mid-20s, with a thin to medium build and dark hair.

At the time he was wearing grey-coloured shorts and a black t-shirt and in possession of a Louis Vuitton-branded satchel.

Police will be conducting a canvass of the area this morning.
