THE chilling “guttural screams” unleashed by Angela Jay as her deranged Tinder stalker launched his frenzied knife attack saved the young doctor from bleeding to death.
The 28-year-old’s terror-filled cries alerted neighbour Steve Willdern, who raced out of his house and grabbed a steel bar from his truck before rushing over to the house the beautiful NSW medic was renting.
Fuelled by adrenaline, the heroic plasterer ran down the steep drive just as the badly injured doctor pushed open the front door and staggered out, covered in blood.
“I’d never heard anything like that piercing scream, I knew someone was in deep trouble,” Mr Willdern said yesterday. “When I got to her she was full of terror and bleeding from her gut, arms and legs.
“I picked her up and ran into my garage where my daughter Amy and I ripped up sheets and towels and used them as bandages to stem the flow.
“I will never forget those screams as long as I live. They were guttural, like something out of a horror movie.
“She told me to call the ambulance immediately. She was terrified she was bleeding to death.”
Sadistic finance worker Paul Lambert, 36, had broken into the four-bedroom house in Port Macquarie hours earlier, harbouring an evil plot to rape and kill the doctor he had met on the popular dating app Tinder eight weeks earlier.
Mr Willdern recalls seeing a shirtless man hovering at the kitchen window two hours before the attack as he returned from work.
Police believe Lambert broke into the home on Thursday and lay in wait for her to return from work, enraged that she had tried to call off their short-lived romance.
When she returned around 6pm, he leapt out of the walk-in wardrobe and launched his frenzied attack, stabbing her 11 times.
Investigators believe he had a sick fantasy to rape the young doctor, kill her and burn down the house to remove evidence of the attack.
Once free from him, Ms Jay steeled herself and instructed Mr Willdern to wipe the petrol dripping from her face and control the loss of blood from the wounds.
“He doused her in petrol and it was burning her,” he said. “She was amazingly composed and calm.”
Ms Jay thanked her neighbours in a text. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You saved my life and I will never forget your kindness and can’t begin to express my gratitude,” she wrote.
Lambert, who was deported from the US last year for stalking TV reporter Ann Keil, who bears a striking resemblance to Ms Jay, was shot dead by police as he resisted arrest.
