A 48-year-old was found in one of the homes with a suspected broken nose.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

The incident forced the closure of George St between Purchase and Alfred streets as police scoured the area.

It is likely to be closed for several hours.
