A man has fronted court today after police allegedly seized a pistol, more than $100,000 cash, and $50,000 in drugs including MDMA and cocaine at a unit in Sydney’s Inner West.
Heavily armed tactical police searched the Breakfast Point unit on Tuesday about 9.30am alongside officers from Redfern Regional Enforcement Squad.
Police allege they found a prohibited pistol, firearm parts, ammunition and a ballistic armoured vest in the unit before arresting the 45-year-old Michael Ismail who was hiding in the bathroom.
He appeared briefly in Burwood Local Court where his case was adjourned to later this year.
Officers also seized $103,140 in cash, nearly 300g of MDMA, 22g of cocaine and an unidentified liquid. The drugs have an estimated street value of $50,000.
Ismael was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with serious drug and weapons offences including supplying a commercial quality of drug and possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit.
Earlier this month, Redfern RES investigators launched a crackdown on illegal cultivation of cannabis in the area, with about $500,000 worth of the drug seized in hydroponic houses in Sydney’s south.
