NSW Police has declared the youth gang OneFour is a criminal group amid growing concern over street violence in Sydney’s west.

The gang, which is separate from the rap group also called OneFour, has soared in popularity in the city’s outer suburbs, with followers posting videos of rap battles and brawls online.

A prominent member of the rap group, Salec Sua, was charged over a fight in Mount Druitt and police say in recently filed court documents that the gang OneFour is a “criminal group”, alleging he “did participate in a criminal group … OneFour, during a riot/affray”.

NSW Police set up Strike Force Imbara after senior officers grew concerned about the growing conflict between gangs in the city’s outer suburbs.

“They are very much into the rap culture talking about (Los Angeles rival gangs) The Crips and Bloods and other violent groups,” one officer previously told The Daily Telegraph.

“This is about being on the front foot and also letting these young members know if you want to be part of a gang you are going to be targeted for police attention.”

Sua and Tautalaga will return to court at later dates.
