Police have released CCTV footage of a drive-by shooting that left a nine-year-old girl with lifelong injuries as new information about the intended target comes to light.
Just before 5.50pm in July 2022, a number of shots were fired at a home on Queens Rd, Connells Point, sending emergency services racing to the scene.
Police allege a gunman exited his vehicle and approached a family unloading groceries in their driveway before firing at the girl.
The girl suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and was rushed to Randwick Children’s Hospital where she underwent surgery for internal injuries.
Following further extensive inquiries, police believe the girl’s father was the intended target of the shooting.
Police confirmed the girl will suffer “lifelong injuries” as a result of the shooting.
A firearm was found in nearby bushland.
A red Mini Cooper and a burnt-out black BMW were also located in Oatley and were seized by police for further forensic and ballistic testing.
A woman and two other children were not injured in the shooting.
State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad formed Strike Force Camiri to further investigate the circumstances of the shooting.
Three men have since been arrested and charged and remain before the courts.
Strike force detectives have released CCTV images of a third car, a black Toyota Aurion with green provisional plates, which police believe was used to take the alleged offenders from an address in Westmead to the black BMW in Strathfield before driving to Connells Point in that car.
Anyone with information about the outstanding Toyota Aurion car is urged to contact police.
Investigations under Strike Force Camiri are ongoing.
