NSW Liberal MP Taylor Martin has described the end of his relationship with a senior Liberal woman who has made a formal complaint about him as “an ugly and undignified parting of ways”.

However, the Upper House MP who has temporarily stepped aside as his party investigates her allegations said he was “young and inexperienced” when he found himself “in a situation that was way beyond me”.

The NSW Liberal Party on Friday appointed a Senior Counsel to conduct an inquiry after the woman – who has requested anonymity – made a written complaint about Mr Martin having allegedly sent her “hundreds” of abusive texts.

Mr Martin agreed to step out of the party room temporarily while the inquiry took place.

The woman and Mr Martin have given conflicting views on when the relationship started.

In his statement to Sky News Australia, Mr Martin vowed to cooperate fully with the inquiry and apologised to those what had been caught up in the saga.

“I was young and inexperienced and I found myself involved in a situation that was way beyond me,” the statement said.

“There were heated words during my attempts to go separate ways that I sincerely regret. It was an ugly and undignified parting of ways. If I could undo any hurt that has been caused I would do it in a heartbeat. I am sorry and apologise unreservedly to everyone that has been caught up in it.

“I truly welcome the process that the party has commenced and I intend to fully cooperate.”

Mr Martin earlier told The Sunday Telegraph how he denied any wrongdoing while declaring how there were “two-sides to every story.”

A source close to Mr Martin said the MP had also raised his own concerns about the woman’s behaviour with police, the Department of Finance and the Liberal Party about his concerns.

The Sunday Telegraph has now confirmed Mr Martin did not raise any complaints about the woman while working for her.

The Saturday Telegraph revealed over the weekend the NSW Liberal Party had appointed an SC to investigate a written complaint it had received from a woman about a series of foul-mouthed texts she had allegedly received over a period of years.

The woman – who does not want to be named – allegedly raised her concerns about the MP with several Liberal members, including to senior members of her faction in February.

A source close to the woman claims she made a verbal complaint with the party months ago, following up with a formal written one in recent days.

It is understood her allegations include that he had sent her “hundreds” of texts, including calling her a “c … t” with describing other text messages described as “misogynist” and “abusive”.

It can be revealed the woman reported the matter to police in April last year, but requested the matter not to be pursued.

A source close to Mr Martin said he also went to police, the Department of Finance and the Liberal Party about his concerns.

The Sunday Telegraph has now confirmed Mr Martin did not raise any complaints about Ms Wicks while working for her.

The source said a department representative official suggested the pair engage in “mediation”.

Mr Martin has agreed to stand aside from the party room until the matter is dealt with, with a source telling The Sunday Telegraph that he was keen to clear his name.

The scandal incident serves as a political headache for State opposition leader Mark Speakman who will be hoping the party investigation into the matter will sort the matter quickly.
