NSW Liberal minister Matt Kean admits multiple driving offences two year ago

NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean has admitted his licence was suspended for a string of driving offences over a year, including using a mobile phone, ignoring a red light and speeding.

NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean has admitted his licence was suspended for a string of driving offences over a year, including using a mobile phone, ignoring a red light and speeding.

Mr Kean revealed yesterday he lost his licence for three months two years ago.

“(In) public life, you’ve got to be accountable for your actions and that’s exactly what I am,” Mr Kean told 7 News.

“Driving safely is really important. I unfortunately accumulated a number of demerit points and I paid a price for that.”

Mr Kean’s licence was suspended after he accumulated 13 demerit points, including ignoring a no right hand turn sign and speeding during a double demerits period.

He said he would support a move forcing politicians to declare when they break the law.

“I’d be happy for a register to be available so people can look at driving records,” he said.

The revelation comes one year after new Labor leader Michael Daley lost his licence for speeding.

“Anyone who expects politicians to be flawless and not human — that’s too much to ask,” Mr Daley previously told reporters.
