LITTLE-KNOWN defence Minister Marise Payne has been catapulted into the foreign ministry following Julie Bishop’s resignation today.
New prime minister Scott Morrison has unveiled his new look Cabinet, in which he extended an olive branch to insurgent conservatives keeping leadership rival Peter Dutton in Home Affairs and backers Mathias Cormann and Greg Hunt in their senior positions of Finance and Health.
Steve Ciobo has been moved into Defence Industries. Mr Morrison also promoted conservative Angus Taylor to Energy in a further bid to heal factional wounds.
Alan Tudge was made the minister for “congestion busting” in the Cities Infrastructure and Population portfolio.
In a bid to reward his key supporters Mr Morrison has promoted Paul Fletcher, Melissa Price and Karen Andrews to Cabinet. Mr Fletcher gets Social Services, Ms Price Environment and Ms Andrews in Industry.
Factional ally Stuart Robert was made assistant treasurer while Alex Hawke was handed special minister for state.
Simon Birmingham moves to Trade, Tourism and Investment while Dan Tehan takes over the Education portfolio. Mitch Fifield keeps his existing portfolios of Communications.

Turnbull coup chiefs Michael Sukkar and Conchetta Fierravanti-Wells have been booted from the frontbench.
Michael Keenan was spared the backbench but his Human Services portfolio has been removed from Cabinet.
Mr Morrison said the new Liberal-National line-up was a “next-generation team” that would begin the work of healing after the tumultuous past week.
“We (will) tackle the big challenges that are before us with some new ideas and a fresh emphasis while restoring some of the emphasis of the past where the Liberal Party is focused on these types of challenges,” he said.

David Coleman was appointed to the Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.
Kelly O’Dwyer will move from the commuter services portfolio into the portfolio of Jobs and Industrial Relations while retaining the role of Minister for Women.
Craig Laundy and John McVeigh refused offers to remain on the frontbench.
New faces on the frontbench Steve Irons, Andrew Broad, Sarah Henderson and Michelle Laundry were all given assistant ministries.
