Drink driving: A guide to safe drinking

A mother who was allegedly six times over the legal limit when she drunk drove her kids to school says she is sorry and worries about the impact on her children and husband.

Police turned up at Hannah Morris’ front door on Friday morning after a motorist reported her erratic driving on Wakehurst Parkway at Oxford Falls, on Sydney’s northern beaches.

When the officers arrived at her Dee Why home, Ms Morris, a psychology postgraduate student at Macquarie University, wasn’t home but a neighbour said she was dropping her two children at school, about 15 minutes drive away.

A few minutes later, Ms Morris pulled her black Citroen Ds4 and found the police outside her multimillion-dollar home.

Police allege the officers carried out a breath test and she tested positive. Ms Morris, 44, was taken to Dee Why Police Station where she allegedly blew 0.314, more than six times the legal limit.

Approached by The Sunday Telegraph today, Mrs Morris, who has held senior roles with skin care and pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland and Australia, said she’d had six glasses of wine the night before.

She’d also had the flu, she claimed, but hadn’t been to the doctor for medication and had trouble sleeping.

“I have been really sick for a couple of weeks, I’ve been taking Nuromol (a pain killer) almost every day,” she said.

“I think the problem was that because I had been so sick all of those weeks, my sleeping patterns were all out of order.

“I woke up at 4am in the morning and my throat was really hurting.

“The night before I had six glasses. Honestly I felt so ill, I was trying to soothe my throat.”

Asked why another motorist would’ve reported her erratic driving, she said her dog, a pug named Banjo, had jumped on her lap and scratched her when she was behind the wheel.

She was charged with high-range drink driving and is due to front Manly Local Court on April 17.

“(I feel) sad. Worried about my husband and children,” Ms Morris said through tears.

Ms Morris had her licence and keys taken off her.
