Sydney is set for a wet Mother's Day with most of coastal NSW headed for a drizzly weekend.

The damp weather will start on Saturday with chances of a thunderstorm, with the rain continuing into Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted an 80 per cent chance of rain in Sydney with between 1 and 5mm of rain to fall on Sunday.

Temperatures will sit around 21 degrees, but light winds with the rain will have it likely feeling colder.

A coastal trough moving along the south coast is set to move north on Saturday morning before heading off shore on the weekend, so it’s not just Sydney feeling the drizzle.

From Batemans Bay to Byron Bay, most of the coast may be forced to move Mother's Day plans indoors, while north of Sydney there is a chance of thunderstorms.

The Entrance on the Central Coast is looking at a top of 19, further north temperatures warm to 22 in Newcastle, still with plenty of rain.

The only parts of the NSW coast not copping the drizzle are the far south, with a partly cloudy 19 for Narooma and mostly sunny, 20, at Eden.
