It’s possibly the world’s most iconic board game and now a Parramatta edition will be created — with the public being given a chance to choose on which landmarks the dice will land.

It boasts many attractions and titles, from the home of the mighty Eels to a UNESCO-listed park and Westfield. Now Parramatta’s famous — or even infamous — landmarks will feature on the official version of the Monopoly board game.

Known for our rich history, multicultural melting pot, NRL team, dining scene and burgeoning economic powerhouse, landmarks such as Old Government House, CommBank Stadium, Eat St and Parramatta Square could feature in Monopoly, along with some quirky suggestions when the edition is released in March.

Landmarks in the traditional game of Monopoly such as the well-heeled Mayfair neighbourhood could even be swapped for the affluent enclave of Oatlands.

From Wednesday, locals are encouraged to have their say on which locations they would like to see featured on the board via the official Parramatta Monopoly Facebook and Instagram pages.

Winning Moves representative Dale Hackett encouraged residents to have their say about the landmarks and attractions that “encapsulate what locals love about the city”.

“This version will be everything you love about the traditional board, with the added fun of fighting for the ownership of familiar locations around Parramatta,’’ he said.

“Would you prefer to see Parramatta Stadium, Church Street Mall (now known as Centenary Square), or Parramatta Park on there – or all of them? Which location do you think deserves to be Mayfair? Now is the time to let us know and get involved in creating this limited-edition board.”

Monopoly first hit the shelves in 1935 and since then it has been played by more than one billion people. Today, it is played in 114 countries and enjoyed in over 47 different languages.

The two-dice game involves players buying and trading properties before “developing” them into houses and hotels.

There are already 15 local editions of Monopoly across Australia, including Penrith, Bankstown, Wollongong and Wagga Wagga.
