THESE little girls — or guys — are quickly finding their place in Sydney’s own meerkat manor.
The two meerkat pups, weighing just 150gm each, were born at Taronga Zoo five weeks ago but can’t be named yet because keepers are still figuring out their sex.
“We’re pretty sure it’s two little girls but it’s very difficult to tell when they’re that small,” the zoo’s carnivore keeper Courtney Mahony said.
Mum Nairobi and dad Maputo are delighted with the new arrivals, who are already mixing it with older siblings Lwazi and Serati, born in January.
“They’re definitely a bit braver than their big brother and sister,” Ms Mahony said.
“They’re out there playing in the sand and learning about meerkat society.”
When the family’s not exploring their enclosure next to their neighbours on the safari trail, the Zebras, they love a sun baking session.
The dark skin and thin fur of their bellies act as “little solar panels”.
