A massive snowstorm has set in over the Snowy Mountains, delivering perfect conditions for families during the last week of school holidays.
The blizzard, which was highly anticipated earlier in the week, hit Thredbo on Thursday evening and is expected to continue for the remainder of the weekend.
Located in the eye of the storm, Thredbo staff confirmed the ski resort had experienced non-stop snowfall over the weekend, with guests waking to 35cm of fresh snow on Sunday.
“Over the last 24 hours, Thredbo has received 35cm of fresh snowfall, taking the total storm count to 48cm since Thursday,” a Thredbo spokeswoman said.
“The village is now covered in over 10cm of snow, creating a magical snow globe experience for all guests in resort.”
Snow continued to fall on Sunday morning with experts forecasting another 10cm will drop on the ski-fields by Sunday night.
“The best news is, the storm certainly isn’t finished yet with experts saying that the snow is set to continue falling all the way through to Sunday evening,” the Thredbo spokeswoman said.
Skiers and snowboarders will be able to enjoy riding fresh tracks all day and see refreshed snow by the time they get back up the chairlift.
“With a massive fresh layer of snow covering the mountain, the groomers have been out in full force to get the runs shaped up and the snow conditions are set to be thick but a lot of fun today.
“Skiers and snowboarders, the wind has been blowing snow overnight so stay on the upper half of the mountain to find some serious windblown stashes to carve up today.
“Please be aware that moderate to strong winds are forecasted for today so some lifts may go on windhold.”
The maximum temperature for the day at the ski fields is set to reach -1 degrees, with snow lovers encouraged to wear low light lenses for maximum visibility in the blizzard.
