Woman killed in hit and run on Sydney’s Central Coast; man charged

A man has been charged after failing to stop to help a woman who was struck by two cars on the Central Coast and died.

A man has been charged after failing to stop to help a woman who was struck by two cars on the Central Coast and died.

The pedestrian, who was 68 years-old, was getting off the bus near Ocean Beach Road in Woy Woy on Saturday night when she was hit by a vehicle heading south, and thrown onto the roadway.

Another car then struck her a second time.

Emergency services were called to the roadway near the intersection of Kathleen Street just before 8pm where they found the critically injured woman under the second vehicle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics and officers from Brisbane Water Police District worked together to release the woman from under the vehicle, however she died at the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle allegedly did not stop when he hit the woman.

Following inquiries to identify the driver, police executed a crime scene warrant at a property in the Central Coast area where a vehicle has been seized for forensic examination.

About 8am on Sunday, investigators returned to the home and arrested a 20-year-old man before taking him to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death.

He was was granted conditional bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday 19 July.

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed on Sunday morning the man had been taken into custody following the fatal incident, and was assisting police with inquiries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 60 year-old man in a Kia Cerato, stopped to help the woman and was taken to Gosford Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached the Crash Investigation Unit are examining the scene.
