Marrickville clothing factory blaze contained after 15 fire trucks respond

A large clothing factory fire in Marrickville has now been contained, after more than 15 fire trucks responded to the scene. Major roads are closed as the clean up continues.

Three industrial units have been extensively damaged after a major fire broke out in Marrickville early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the complex on Cook Rd shortly before 3.30am Thursday morning and found the two-storey buildings well-alight.

The massive emergency response involving at least 50 firefighters and 16 fire trucks began after firefighters were called to a Marrickville clothing factory at about 3.30am.

Firefighters battled intense flames and heavy smoke throughout and were able to bring the blaze under control by 5.30am.

As of 6.30am crews remained at the site to fully extinguish remaining hotspots and ensure the area was safe.

As a result of the fire, both Addison and Victoria roads have been closed to traffic while the firefighting operation continues.

Authorities have urged residents and motorists to avoid the area while emergency operations continue.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Investigators from the Inner West Police Area Command will examine the scene once it is safe to enter.
