GEORGE Nassif was battling to overcome his drug problems so he could see his four children again before he was shot in the back at a western Sydney apartment building.
There was a knock at the door of the fifth-floor unit on George St, Warwick Farm about 5pm yesterday — police believe it was two men, one armed with a gun.

“The men entered the unit and shot a 46-year-old man in the back before leaving the area,” police said in a statement.
Nassiff was wheeled out of the apartment block on an ambulance stretcher and rushed to Liverpool Hospital under police guard. He later died there.
Liverpool police and the dog unit searched the surrounding streets but could not find the two men.
Nassiff’s best friend Bob told The Daily Telegraph Nassif had battled with drugs in the past but had recently thrived at an intense Coffs Harbour rehabilitation program with the hope of seeing his four children who had moved interstate.
“He’d done the rehab, it was all for his kids,” Bob said.
“I just spoke to him yesterday morning.
“I have a farm, I said I’ll come and get you … and we’re going to the farm. If only he had come with me.
“He killed the rehab. He was 125kg, you’d think he’s not going to finish it, he did.
“And he got his licence back.”
State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad is now assisting with the investigation.
Court documents show Nassif was still enduring the fallout from his drug issues when he was allegedly executed.
He was due to face Liverpool Local Court this Thursday on charges of possessing the drugs ice and MDMA at a Cabramatta Hotel on April 27.
