Man charged after threatening staff, lighting fire at Granville car dealership

A disgruntled customer has been charged at the MG car dealership in Granville after allegedly chasing staff with a hammer and setting the showroom floor on fire.

A disgruntled customer has been charged at the MG car dealership in Granville after allegedly chasing staff with a hammer and setting the showroom floor on fire.

Police were called to the MG car dealership on Church Street, Granville about 10am Tuesday following reports of a man” causing a disturbance”.

It will be alleged the man threatened staff with a hammer, allegedly chasing them around the dealership, before pouring petrol on the showroom floor before igniting it.

The fire was extinguished by staff members, however a staff member was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and arrested a 69-year-old man, understood to be a customer, at the scene.

He has been taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with three counts of use offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence, three counts of common assault, malicious damage and damage property by fire.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
