The arrest comes after the creation of Strike Force Eckersley, that is investigating complaints made to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Detectives have uncovered an excursion program at the school which was designed to ease troubled boys back into society between 1965 to 1985.
As part of the program, the children were then taken to Sydney restaurants before allegedly being assaulted.
“We will be alleging before court the arrested man indecently assaulted a boy at one of those lunches,” Detective Superintendent Brett McFadden said.
“We are also alleging the suspect was not employed at the Daruk Training School but was a friend of staff who took the child to lunch.”
Last year another Sydney man was arrested by Strike Force Eckersley in May.
The former youth officer, 74, was arrested following investigations of child sex abuse.
Two other men, who both lived in Queensland, have also been arrested.
A 73-year-old Gold Coast man was charged in April 2018 with six counts of indecent assault of a male, among other offences.
A 67-year-old Brisbane man was arrested in February 2018 before being extradited to Penrith Local Court on charges of indecent assault on a male and buggery.
