The horror in his voice is clear.
A first responder arriving at the scene of the horror Hunter Valley bus crash calls for support, struggling to come to terms with the war zone-like scenario unfolding in front of him.
In the audio played on 2GB’s Ben Fordham program, the man describes how there are seven “code fours” – a technical term for fatalities – and another passenger who is “red label” meaning they are in a critical condition.
As it stands on Monday morning, there are a confirmed 10 people dead and a further 25 are injured.
The bus was carrying guests from a wedding which took place on the grounds of Wandin Estate in the Hunter Valley on Sunday.
Here is the first responder’s audio:
“Major incident declared. We have a bus rollover, multiple patients,” the first responder said.
“The exact location is on Wine Hunter Drive overpass. We have police, fire brigade on scene. At this stage we have identified seven, I repeat seven, code fours.
“We have one red label patient whose injuries are severe and unfortunately we are expecting that is also going to code four (become fatal).
“We have multiple red (critical injuries) and orange label (serious injuries) patients at this stage.
“I need all resources allocated to continue, I am still trying to work out exactly how many patients we have here.”
