Young man charged with slew of drugs, assault, firearms, weapons and driving offences after wild police pursuit near Casino
A 24-year-old man who took police on a wild pursuit before being tasered after he pointed a firearm at arresting officers is now facing a slew of charges relating to firearms, drugs, weapons, assault and driving.

A 24-year-old man who took police on a wild pursuit before being tasered after he pointed a firearm at arresting officers is now facing a slew of charges relating to firearms, drugs, weapons, assault and driving.
He was arrested and taken to Casino Police station where he was bail refused to appear before Casino Local Court on Friday to face a stack of firearms, drugs, weapons, assault, and driving offences.
Police will allege in court the pistol was stolen from a business in Armidale in September, 2024.
About 3.30pm on Thursday police attempted to stop a car due to the alleged manner of driving in Tabulam, 60km west of Casino.
The man fled and police initiated a pursuit chasing the man 20kms south where he stopped at Alice.
“When an officer attempted to arrest the man, he allegedly pointed a loaded pistol at the officer,” police said in a statement.
“The officer discharged his Taser and the man was arrested.”
Police searched the vehicle, allegedly locating and seizing drugs, cash, ammunition and magazines, a balaclava, large machete and other drug paraphernalia.
He is charged with 17 offences including police pursuit -not stop – drive recklessly, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess loaded firearm in public place.
He was also charged with possessing a stolen firearm or part, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and possessing ammunition without holding a permit.
The man will also face charges of assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm, intimidating a police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hindering or resisting a police officer in execution of duty, and supplying prohibited drug.
He was also charged with driving while disqualified, driving while his licence was cancelled, having custody of a knife in a public place, two counts of knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime, and two counts of goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen.
