Wollongbar Shopping Centre: New pharmacy, cafe planned for town

Cafes, retail outlets, a pharmacy and medical centres have been revealed as part of plans for a North Coast town which is expected to boom in coming years.

Major plans to revitalise a village hub in the North Coast have been revealed as part of a multimillion development proposal in Wollongbar.

Newton Denny Chapelle has submitted a development application on behalf of developer Abdul Alyassin for a series of sites on 48 Simpson Ave, Wollongbar.

The site is located within the commercial precinct of the Wollongbar village, adjacent to the Wollongbar Tavern and Wollongbar Shopping Centre.

A planner for the development’s initial application said the proposal would result in a variety of businesses, including a pharmacy, cafe, medial premises and retail stores.

“The availability of medical, pharmaceutical and retail space will strengthen the local economy through the construction and operational phases through employment and ongoing patronage of the proposed businesses,” the planner said.

The planner also said the development would set Wollongbar up for its predicted population boom with plenty of jobs to be created.

“The provision of new commercial premises floor area will provide the stimulus for new business activity with associated employment growth opportunities within the region,” they said.

The village, estimated to cost around $2.96 million, would be built in a “modern style facade” that will appeal to the core commercial precinct in Wollongbar.

The proposal is yet to go on public exhibition.
