A Sydney man who travelled to the Northern Rivers in late July while positive with Covid-19 remains at Lismore Base Hospital.

Government sources have confirmed Zoran Radovanovic, 52, was still being cared for by medical staff in Lismore.

There was no information on his health or the level of treatment he was receiving.

Once released, the man will be directed to return to his Rose Bay home in Sydney.

His son Kristian Radovanovic, 19, and his younger son – who also tested positive for Covid-19 while in Northern NSW – have already returned to their Sydney home.

Mr Radovanovic was charged on August 11 with breaching public health orders after he allegedly travelled from Sydney to the Byron Bay area without a reasonable excuse.

He is due to appear at Lismore Local Court on September 13.

Kristian Radovanovic, 19, was also charged after leaving Sydney and travelling to the Northern Rivers, allegedly accompanying Zoran Radovanovic.

Kristian Radovanovic will appear before the court on September 27.

It was understood Mr Radovanovic initially claimed his travel to the state’s north was to look at property.

A loophole existed under the current public health orders to allow people to travel for this reason, but the rules were designed to apply in circumstances such as a marriage breakdown when one person needed to find a new place to live, or a doctor working in both Byron Bay and Sydney.

Mr Radovanovic’s admission to Lismore Base Hospital triggered a lockdown for the Ballina, Byron, Lismore, and Richmond Valley Council areas on August 9.

The effect of the lockdown extended to neighbouring districts as NSW chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant applied stay-at-home orders to all people who had been in those four local government areas on or after July 31.
