Westpac Helicopter tasked to Nightcap National Park near Nimbin after trail bike crash

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to a difficult rescue near Nimbin on Saturday afternoon, with a 50-year-old man suffering serious injuries after crashing in steep and rocky terrain.

A trail bike rider had to be rescued from a remote Northern Rivers national park after he crashed and suffered serious chest and back injuries.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and NSW Ambulance crews were tasked crash, which happened on Saturday afternoon on a remote trail in the Nightcap National Park, north of Nimbin.

It was reported that a 50-year-old trail bike rider had crashed and fallen heavily.

A spokesman from the helicopter service said emergency services attended the location but had difficulty accessing the patient due to the steep and rocky terrain.

“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter located the male and winched inserted the critical care paramedic and doctor into the scene,” he said.”

“The male was treated and stabilised by the critical care medical team prior to being carried from the scene and road transported by ambulance to the Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition suffering chest and spinal injuries.”

The 50-year-old man was this morning (Sunday) urgently flown from Lismore Base Hospital to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

He is suffering serious chest and spinal injuries.

“The male will be stabilised in Lismore by the helicopter critical care medial team prior to being flown direct to the Gold Coast, where he will undergo further specialist treatment,” the rescue helicopter spokesman said.

The inter-hospital mission was the second of the day for the Westpac crew earlier they had been tasked to take a 79-year-old man from Lismore Base Hospital to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

He was suffering a serious medical condition and will undergo further specialist treatment.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the Westpac Rescue Rescue Helicopter was tasked on an urgent inter-hospital retrieval from the Lismore Base Hospital to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A 66-year-old man was suffering a serious medical condition and required further treatment.
