Twin boys and two healthy girls are the first bubs to be born on the North Coast for 2025.
Lismore couple Veronika Elias and Claudius Cigliana are “super happy” new parents to an adorable baby girl named Chiara.
Veronika said after immigrating to Australia eight years ago, and now being formal citizens, they wanted to start a family.
“The pregnancy was pretty good to be honest,” Ms Elias said.
“Everything went well and the baby was born on her due date which is like five per cent of babies are born on their due date so that’s great.
“Honestly the labour was super long … I was in labour for three days but I ended up in an emergency C-section.
“But we are super happy and she is super cute so you know, so we already forgot (the pain).”
Chiara’s dad is “super, super happy”.
“ … and super helpful – like he is helping with pretty much everything,” Ms Elias laughed.
“Because after the C-section I am just laying down for now.”
Ms Elias said her daughter looked like her, and during an ultrasound friends said the same thing.
“But when we finally meet her she looks like her daddy,” she said.
Despite being born a smaller child the doting couple remain unfazed.
“She was born two kilos seventy-five so we knew she’d be on the smaller side … but she has a lot of hair and super long eyelashes and is very healthy,” the beaming mum said.
Healthy twin boys made their debut in 2025 for expecting mum Heiarii Ioapa who said they are “a welcome and unexpected surprise. This year has started with a bang, a touch of happy chaos”.
The new mum had not yet named the boys at time of publishing, who were delivered at Tweed Valley Hospital on January 1, in the Northern NSW Area Health District.
First-time parents Huang Tzu-Ling and Liam Walsh had a quiet New Year’s Eve planned at home in Comboyne, 50km southwest of Port Macquarie, but their daughter Remi had plans of her own and decided to make her grand entrance to the world two weeks ahead of schedule.
Remi arrived at 12:05am on January 1 at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, the first baby born in 2025 for the Mid North Coast Local Health District.
Mum, Tzu-Ling and dad Liam appreciated the care of the team at Port Macquarie Base Hospital during prenatal classes and the birth.
“They were awesome and made our first birth experience less stressful,” Mr Walsh said.
Both Ms Huang and Mr Walsh said the arrival of their first child was momentous and the fact she’s the first birth of 2025 was exciting.
“The attention is exciting. We thought Remi might be the last baby of 2024 and it was a surprise to be the first of 2025,” the proud dad said.
“We just want to provide a happy life for Remi to grow up and live how she wants.”
Family from Newcastle made the trip to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for their first cuddles and Ms Huang and Mr Walsh will travel to see more family once Remi has a passport.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar Dr Sarah Keenan worked with midwives to deliver baby Remi.
“I was so absorbed in the moment for Jinnie (Tzu-Ling) and Liam that I completely missed the clock ticking past midnight,” Dr Keenan said.
The doctor said the birth experience was “surreal” and an “unforgettable way” to herald in the new year she said she’d cherish for the rest of her career.
