The Lismore Local Government Area will return to lockdown for seven days following an increase in Covid-19 cases.

NSW Health made the announcement on Sunday afternoon, saying the lockdown was due to “increased COVID-19 public health risk” and would start from Sunday October 3 at midnight and last until October 11.

This stay-at-home order will also apply to anyone who has been in Lismore LGA since September 28 2021.

Everyone in this area must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason, which includes shopping for food, medical care, getting vaccinated, compassionate needs, exercise and work or tertiary education if you can’t work or study at home.

There have been eight new cases of Covid-19 in Lismore over the weekend, with six announced on Saturday and a further two on Sunday.

All cases are linked to the Kyogle cluster.

Lismore will join Kyogle and Casino already under stay-at-home orders.

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant revealed during a Sunday press conference there were two new cases overnight in Lismore, three in the Tweed Shire region and one in Kyogle.

Both the Tweed and Kyogle cases were foreshadowed by Jeremy McAnulty on Saturday but the two Lismore cases are new.

Ms Chant also announced Kingscliff and Banora Point sewage plants had also detected positive Covid-19 samples.

The plants serve around 73,000 people in Tweed Heads, Tweed Heads South and West, Banora Point, Terranora, Bilambil Heights, Fingal Head, Kingscliff, Chinderah, Cudgen and Casuarina.

Ms Chant said it was part of “increasing trends in the regions” as metropolitan Covid-19 cases decreased.

“We are seeing seeding and community cases,” she said.

The total number of active cases in Northern NSW is 28.

The Northern NSW Local Health District also revealed new contact tracing locations on Saturday night including those in Ballina, Pottsville and Cabarita Beach.
