Truck roll-over at Binna Burra

NORTHERN NSW roads had another horror day with four more crashes, including a truck roll-over at Binna Burra.

JUST two days after five people were killed and 16 injured on Northern NSW roads, another four accidents caused traffic chaos around the region yesterday.

The most serious incident, a truck roll-over on the Lismore-Bangalow Road at Binna Burra, happened just after midday.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a man from Casino, was shaken but not hurt in the crash.

However, traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours while the debris was cleared up and police waited for another semi-trailer to tow away the smashed truck.

Police from Byron Bay and Bangalow attended the accident scene, along with Rural Fire Service crews from Federal and Newrybar.

It is not known how theaccident happened, but police said the trailer tipped over and took the prime mover with it.

In other crashes on the Northern Rivers yesterday, two cars collided in Molesworth Street, Lismore, at 5.20am.

This was followed by a two-car crash near Evans Head just after 8am.

Richmond Local Area Command supervisor, Senior Constable Ross Wilson, said the accident happened 2km north of Evans Head towards Broadwater.

“Two cars were involved and one rolled,” he said.

“There were no injuries, but one car blocked traffic and was towed away.”

Police were then called to a two-car accident on Ballina Road, Goonellabah, at 2.20pm. No one was injured.

Five people were killed in crashes at Bangalow, Drake, Glen Innes and Macksville on Saturday, and several people taken to hospital with serious injuries.
