Hotel Brunswick has asked everyone to remember John “Strop” Cornell this afternoon, by raising a toast to him, “wherever you are”.
Mr Cornell, 80, died at his home in Byron Bay after he fought a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Much loved from his enduring role as Strop on the Paul Hogan Show, Mr Cornell and his wife Delvene Delaney had an even greater impact on the Northern Rivers entertainment scene.
The family moved to Byron Bay in 1980, when they bought the Surfside Hotel facing the Bay’s Main Beach.
They spent $9 million building the popular Beach Hotel, which they sold in 2007 for $65 million.
An astute business man, Mr Cornell and his family also bought the Hotel Brunswick.
And the pub’s Facebook page has remembered him by posting a very Aussie tribute
The post reads: “What a man and what a life! John Cornell 02.03.1941- 23.07.2021.
May you raise a toast to this man this afternoon from wherever you are”.
