Three options on the table for a new deputy mayor at Lismore

The August meeting of Lismore City Council looks to be lively with a number of matters up for discussion, including a debate regarding three options on electing a new deputy mayor.

Items up for discussion at the Lismore City Council meeting on Tuesday will include vegetation management works, land acquisition, electing a new deputy mayor as well as a legal matter review and two code of conduct reports.

It is understood the debate regarding electing a deputy mayor will be lively.

Currently Councillor Neil Marks sits in the position.

“I am very happy to stay in the role until the election in December,” he said.

“Hopefully, I have the support of other councillors in that position.”

According to the agenda which was uploaded on council’s website, Council now has three options available:

1. Extend the current term of the deputy mayor until the election;

2. Hold an election for a new deputy mayor at the September 14 ordinary council meeting;

3. The position remain vacant from September 2021 to January 2022.

Other items include; vegetation management works on council owned land in Goonellabah, land acquisitions for Tucki Tucki Creek open space corridor within Hidden Valley Estate, Chilcotts Grass, legal and practical access using crown and council public road – 309 Henson Road, Wyrallah, a report on the Delivery Program.

Council will also discuss an Australian Australian Taxation Office Draft Determination GSTD 2021/D2 – GST and burial rights and as a change to meeting schedules.

Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the council chambers, Oliver Ave, Goonellabah.

Meetings are open to the public with the exception of confidential matters.
